Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRITA CECELIA MAJOR 1926 - 2011 On January 27, 2011 Rita, aged 84, passed away peacefully in the company of her children at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB. Rita was born in Cape Town, South Africa, the youngest of six children to David Hager and Johanna Smith. Married in 1946 to Charles Major, Rita had a full time job raising nine children. In 1964 the family moved to Scotland for a period of four years. In July of 1968 Rita moved her family to The Pas, MB where she took a position at the St. Anthony's General Hospital as a Unit Clerk. Two years later Rita moved the family to Winnipeg and took up employment at the Grace General Hospital, then with the Department of National Defense, CFB Winnipeg where she remained until her retirement. Rita was many things to many people: a good friend, kind hearted, gentle and quick witted with a wry sense of humour and an ever ready smile. When not singing with the Seniors Choir or at Unity Church of Winnipeg, ballroom dancing, travelling, gardening and piano lessons kept her invested in life. Left to embrace her life and passing are her children, Nolan Major, Wendy Parker, Graham Major, Luna Roth, Mark Major, Raymond Major, Joy Coutts and their families; her sister-in-law Joyce Hager; nieces and nephews in South Africa and England; grandchildren in Canada, England, United States, Tasmania and Malaysia. Rita's presence will be missed by her friends Phyllis Schwartz and daughter Diane, John Keorner, Joyce Zink and son Jean-Pierre and the many others she knew, respected and honoured. Rita is predeceased by her parents and five siblings; her sons Brian and Andre and former husband Charles. Memorial services will be held at Unity Church of Winnipeg, 300 Arlington St. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice in Rita's name.
