THOMAS ROY BAILEY It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Thomas Roy Bailey. He quietly entered into rest in his 96th year, with family at his side, on Sunday, January 30, 2011 following a short illness. His presence will be greatly missed not only by his family but also by his many friends who were benefactors of his always caring and gentle ways. T. Roy, as he became affectionately known over the years, was born on September 5, 1915 on their now Centennial Farm in the Prosser District, the sixth child of the late Tom and Ida Bailey. He spent his lifetime contributing, in a variety of ways, to the community he loved. His contribution to the betterment of Carberry and North Cypress included serving on Municipal Council, Carberry Development Corporation, Vegetable Growers Association, Hospital Board, and United Church Board of Stewards and Session. He took a leadership role in starting the growing of potatoes in the area, constructing the Carberry Plains Lodge and current health facility, the Carberry Plains Recreation Centre, and helped to design the Sandhills Golf Course. He was a lifetime member of the Oddfellows and Rebekahs, organizations that he loyally served both locally and provincially. One his greatest sources of pleasure was the hosting of the Royal Family in 1970 on the family farm. His life constantly surrounded his family (whose activities he always supported), his church, the drop in centre and his favourite leisure activity, golf. In recent years his contributions have been recognized as he was inducted into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame and awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Carberry Chamber of Commerce. He always went about his business in a quiet and genuine way as his warm words of encouragement always brightened the days of those he met. No day was complete without his checking on the operation of the farm which is now managed by his grandson, Terry. Roy was married to Nora Froom for 45 years until her passing in 1986. They had three sons, Alan, Brian and Douglas. His 14 year marriage to Edith Ranson ended with her passing in 2002. Left to cherish his memory are sons Alan (Margie), Kim (Nick) Ciampanelli, Dean and Jack, Terry (Lori), Alana, Kelsey and Thomas; Brian (Jan), Jerilyn, Jaelyn, and Taylor Miscavish, Ryan, and Allison (Peter) Reid; Doug (Lynne), Susan (Mark) Dobell, Heather, and Warren (Marie) Bailey. He is also survived by his stepsons George, Allan and Neil Ranson along with their spouses and families. He was predeceased by his older siblings Vernon, Mary (Eyvindson), Marsden, Dorothy (Pearn), and Bessie. A service celebrating his life will be held in the Carberry United Church on Friday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating clergy will be Rev. Peggy Reid with interment in the Carberry Plains Cemetery. In lieu of flowers friends may make donations, in his memory, to Broken Wings Mission Inc. (Haiti), in care of Peter Eyvindson, P.O. Box 51, Clavet SK S0K 0Y0. White's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
