OLIVIA WELDON (KACHUR)
Born: Jan 01, 1925
Date of Passing: Jan 28, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVIA WELDON (nee KACHUR) January 1, 1925 - January 28, 2011 With sadness we announce the passing of Olivia on January 28, 2011 at Calvary Place Care Home at the age of 86. Mom will be missed by her son John of Toronto, daughters Gwen (Bill and Gina), Kim (George), Leslie (Martin) and granddaughter Taylor, brother Peter of Dauphin, sister Jean of Winnipeg as well as numerous relatives and friends. Mom was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Sophie, brothers Paul, Michael, Roman and infant sister Ann. Olivia came to Canada as an infant from Western Ukraine (Trebochiwci, Husiatyn). Her family settled and farmed in Ethelbert, MB. Mom attended Loon Lake Country School. After leaving the farm, mom lived and worked in Toronto, Montreal and eventually made her home in Winnipeg with her four children. She enjoyed employment at Eaton's, The Bay and Holy Family Nursing Home until her retirement in 1991. Mom was an amazing woman. She was a gentle and kind soul who lived for her children and grandchild. She had a knack for making things special with her creativity and innovative ways, even though there was never a lot of money. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Some of her hobbies included sewing, knitting, cake decorating, quilting and reading. She liked a good game of Scrabble and enjoyed going to bingo. She always had a soft spot for all creatures, especially cats. We always had a pet of some sort in the house. Mom had a playful spirit and a good sense of humour. She never drove but truly enjoyed walking everywhere. She was fiercely independent and proud. She never complained about her lot' in life. Unfortunately, though mom's body was strong, her mind was quickly becoming confused with Alzheimer's. Her last few years were tormented by this disease as it ruthlessly stole pieces of the person she was. Through everything, mom was a fighter until the end. It has been difficult for everyone to watch this progression take place. We pray she is finally at peace and in a better place. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest (Matt.11:28) Cremation has taken place, a traditional service will not be held. A Celebration of Olivia's Life will be held at the Mosaic Funeral Chapel and Reception Centre, 1839 Inkster Blvd. on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. The Family would like to give a special thank you for the care Olivia received at the Calvary Place Personal Care Home, and also to friends and family for their kindness and support.
