MADELINE SALUK (BOYKO) Embraced in the loving arms of her husband, while surrounded by her family, mom left us peacefully on January 31, 2011 at the Selkirk General Hospital. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband Walter, of 56 years, and her children Greg (Erin), Darlene (Rodney), Garry (Monica) and Brad (Sandi). Baba was blessed with her grandchildren, Cara (Jamie), Kristin (Jeff), Courtney, Kiersten, Amy, Cindy, Logan and great-grandchildren Ty and Jaya. She is survived by her sisters and brothers, Irene (Alphonse), Helen, Rudy (Margaret) and Eddy (Irene) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Anne and Peter, sisters Elvie and Jean, brothers-in-law Alex, Walter. Mom was born May 4, 1933 and lived her early life in Walkleyburg and Selkirk. In 1954, mom married dad and together they raised us in a loving home. Mom was a kind and soft spoken woman. She devoted her life to her family and was proud of their accomplishments. Her hands were always busy especially when she was in the kitchen. Ethnic dishes were her specialty from perogies to holobtsi and perishky. From a young age, mom enjoyed gardening and together with dad their garden always flourished. Every year mom took great pleasure in canning and produced many amazing preserves including her legendary dills. Mom enjoyed celebrating with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their special events. Her greatest delight was watching her granddaughters Ukrainian dance. The family wishes to thank Doctors Ansar and Racette, the staff at Selkirk General Hospital and Homecare for their dedication and compassionate care. Special thanks to Joanne and her dear friend Marge. Respecting mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date at the Sandhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Vichnaya Pam'yat Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
