INA BEATRICE BACKMAN (nee ACHESON) 1931 - 2011 Ina Backman died suddenly and peacefully in her home on January 30, 2011. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Patti (Brian) Anderson, grandson Kevin (April) Anderson, sister Kathleen (Kay) Wall, Maurice Ingram, nieces Barb (Ross) May, Nancy (Gerald) Smart and their families and many, many friends. She is also survived by Thruda (nee Backman) Thordarson. Ina was born in Winnipeg and received her education in various schools in the city; graduating from St. John's Tech after which she began work at the Bank of Montreal. She was an accomplished organist, playing for services at A. B. Gardiners' Funeral Home (14 years) then Thomson Funeral Chapel for 32 years. The latter years, she was a Hostess for receptions at Thomsons, enjoying the personal interactions greatly. Ina met Kris at Silver Y Dance and they married in 1954. They enjoyed many years at their cottage at Falcon Lake along with Patti and family until Kris' death in 1999. Throughout her life, Ina sang in various choirs. She loved to sing. Ina was also a member of Fort Garry United Church for over 50 years, singing in their choir and a quartet. She will be remembered for her gregarious personality along with the ability to dispense hugs generously. A service to celebrate Ina's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road.
