ARCHIBALD LAMONT KAY At midnight February 2, 2011 Archie gained peace and comfort as he passed away, at the St. Boniface Hospital with his daughter Janice at his side. Born March 13, 1924, Archie was predeceased by his wife Gwen, and his parents John and Ethel Kay of St. Vital, and his siblings Catherine, John, Ethel, and infant brother George. Archie will be lovingly remembered by his sisters' children, Ken, Sandra, David, Glenn and Heather, and by Gwen's nieces Carol and Barbara, and her nephews Ted, John and Bill, as well as their families. Archie was the fair haired boy' in a family of red heads. Growing up in St. Vital, he attended school at Windsor, and graduated from the original Glenlawn high school at the Norberry Annex. From June 1942 through October 1945 he was on active service with Royal Canadian Air Force, starting with flight training in Manitoba and then radar school in eastern Canada, finally stationed at radar posts on the coast of British Columbia. Archie and Gwen were married September 24, 1949, celebrating 51 years of marriage shortly before Gwen's death. He was employed with the City of St. Vital Fire Department when Janice was born. By the early 1960s he was a travelling salesman for House of Comoy, located on the block of Princess Street which now houses Red River College. During this time Dad and his big green panel van often ferried Janice and other children on St. George Road to school on stormy days, including the 1966 blizzard. Archie's final working years were as a salesman and assistant manager of the hardware department at Sears Polo Park, and then as Manager of Store Displays at the new Sears store in Kildonan Mall. At Archie's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. Janice would like to extend her appreciation and thanks to Dr. M. Shojania and nurse Agnes Remillard at Cancer Care Manitoba's Blood Disorder Clinic at St. Boniface Hospital, as well as the clinic's numerous nurses who administered Archie's blood transfusions in the past year. Also, thanks to Drs. M. Brunt and H. AdamSdrolias plus the nurses and aides on 5B of St. Boniface Hospital for Dad's care this past month. If friends so desire, donations in Archie's memory may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, or the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, specifying the Heather I. Foreman Tribute Fund, or the Firefighters Burn Fund (www.firefightersburnfund.mb.ca). Look out at the stars, Watch the moon, Know you are Loved.
