MARY VIVIAN WHITE November 19, 1929 - February 3, 2011 Peacefully and surrounded by family and friends who loved her greatly, Vivian passed away after a brief battle with cancer at the Victoria General Hospital. Left to celebrate Vivian's life is her husband Grant; son Gerald and daughter-in-law Lucy; grandchildren Seth, Daniel, Adam and Erica; sister Edith and husband Ken; nephews John and Jamie and her many close and caring friends. Vivian's life began at the Port Arthur General Hospital in the Thunder Bay, Ontario area. She was raised on the railway in Dorion and spent much of her life on the prairies in Winnipeg. But her heart was always in God's Country and the north shore of Lake Superior. Viv's' many close friends in Winnipeg knew her as a Lifetime Volunteer Member at the Victoria General Hospital and from her strong associations with Trinity United Church. South Side Seniors Group and her many bank friends were also a very important part of her life. A memorial service to reminisce and celebrate Viv's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8 in Trinity United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Viv's memory may be made to Trinity United Church or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • As a student from N S, I first met Viv at Trinity. That meeting was the start of a very close relationship. I was treated for the next two years like a son. Wonderful meals, desserts, of course with 4:00 happy hour. Viv loved a ceasar while she cooked. When I need a hug, a place to stay, a quiet study place she was there! When I left Winnipeg, Viv embraced me and whispered in my ear "thank you for coming into my life". With tears in my eyes now, I saw "No Viv, thank you for coming into mine." - Posted by: Chris Cook (Friend) on: Feb 15, 2011

  • We send our fondest wishes to Grant and family as we give thanks for our dear friend Vivian. As a Tamworth neighbour, Trinity faith partner and beloved adopted grandma for Peter and Phillip, Viv brought joy, shared laughter and embodied love and grace. We will always remember Santa parties, wonderful meals, and the constant presence of one who truly loved others. In faith and hope of the Resurrection we hear Jesus' reassurance, "Let not your hearts be troubled" and give thanks for the gift of life Vivian generously shared. Rev.
