TOM GRANDE 1927 - 2011 On January 6, 2011, surrounded by family and friends, Tom peacefully passed away at Betel Personal Care Home in Gimli, MB. Having had a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease, he did so with such grace and strength of character that he was given the much deserved nick name of Magical Man . Tom always had a unique and special way of focusing on the positive aspects of life, living it to the fullest, and bringing out the very best in those around him. Tom was a true inspiration with an astounding list of accomplishments. Much of his young life was spent dedicated to sports and he excelled in many. He was a champion five and ten pin bowler and went on to bring the sport to new levels, which paved the way for coming generations in Manitoba. In 2011 Tom was inducted into the Manitoba Bowling Hall of Fame; in recognition of his special efforts. After 35 years service with C.P.R. Tom retired to Winnipeg Beach where he, his wife and soul mate enjoyed many years; entertaining on their patio, swimming in their pool and enjoying their family reunions. He could always be found working or planning on new building projects and was always there to lend a hand to those in need. Tom served his community with countless hours of volunteer work to help create a better place for people to visit, live and enjoy. He also put great importance in engaging in conversation with our youth to encourage them to take an active role in the community. He also cherished the many winters of travelling down south; Tom loved to visit his family and enjoyed making new friends along the way. In the four years he resided at Betel, Tom enjoyed taking part in the many activities or programs that were offered; such as carpet bowling, horseshoes and fishing to name a few and visits from school children, as well as all the visiting pets. Tom always had a ready smile and encouraging words for his fellow residents and staff alike. Tom is survived by his loving wife Karen, daughters Susan (Ken) and Diane, and grandsons Jeff and Kevin Banera, step-children Tracy and Greg, his sisters Rose and Jeanette. A sincere thank you goes out to the homecare staff and the staff at Betel Personal Care Home. In his memory donations may be made to KIDS SPORTS INTERLAKE Gimli. Sleep peacefully, Tom you will be dearly missed and forever loved. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
