Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGERY VICTORIA BEATON (nee REID) October 16, 1918 - February 2, 2011 Peacefully, with her son Greg at her side, Margery passed away in her 93rd year at the Health Sciences Centre. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard, in 1976, she is survived by her loving children, Greg and Sheila Beaton, Winnipeg, Rod and Lois Beaton, Kelowna, and Marsha and Cameron Grout, Oakville; grandchildren, Jeff (Monica) and Julie Beaton; Christi Grout and Robin (Steve) Ogden; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Beaton; Tyler and Sydney Ogden. Born in Alberta, one of 11 children, Margery leaves two sisters, Wilma Rix, Edmonton and Jean Egger, Calgary; along with 26 nieces and nephews. Margery and Howard were married on New Year's Eve 1940 and moved to Winnipeg in 1956 to join the head office of Investors Group. For the next 20 years they enjoyed business travels across the country; summers at Falcon Lake; making life-long friends. Jack and Betty Gilbert welcomed our family to Winnipeg 55 years ago as neighbours and have been special friends ever since. A lifelong volunteer, Margery served with many organizations, in Alberta and Manitoba. As a 40-year member of the McKinnon Guild of the Children's Hospital, she was still working at the Nearly New Shop at the age of 86. She spent many years with Marina Creations. As an IODE member, she served as Regent of the Countess of Athlone Chapter, and was a 50 year member of St. Andrews United Church. The family would like to express their gratitude to the kind and caring staff at The Wellington, as well as her many compassionate care givers. Special appreciation goes out to Sheila for the love, care and dedication given to her mother-in-law throughout the years. None of us would have done nearly so well without her. (Every family needs one) Cremation has taken place, and per Margery's request, the family will have a private memorial service. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomson Funeral Home. Condolences to the family may be made at www.thomsonfuneralchapel.com. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to a charity of your choice. For the past 35 years Mom has taken over 60 trips and 100s of flights, often with family, but many more alone to be greeted by loving family members at the other end. On Wednesday she departed on her final voyage to join our father. What could be nicer as they both have been waiting such a long time. God speed Mom.
