BENONA LYNN MITCHELL 1922 - 2011 Peacefully at the Boundary Trails Health Centre, February 1, 2011, Benona Lynn Mitchell slipped from this life after a brief illness. Lynn Mitchell was born on the family farm May 25, 1922 to Lynn M. and Christina Mitchell. The youngest of a family of four (Kenneth, Ronald and Myrtle), Lynn learned the butcher trade from his Dad. He worked the Beef Ring with his father during the late 1930s and 1940s, and at an early age learned to play the violin - winning his first contest at age eight in Pilot Mound. One of the highlights of his life was becoming the Provincial Old Time Fiddling Champion in 1950s. While working in the bush camps in Ontario, Lynn sustained a back injury sending him to McKellar Hospital where he met a registered nurse, Edna Elizabeth Doerr. The couple were married in Fort William, ON on August 18, 1950. Lynn and Edna moved back to the family farm shortly thereafter. Lynn is survived by four daughters, Dorne (Frank) Lindal; Elaine (Merv) Lyne; Jan (Bill) Gardiner and Cathy Mitchell, as well as seven grandchildren, Keith, Donna, Jeff, Chad, James, Beccy, Will and seven great-grandchildren. Lynn was predeceased by his parents, his siblings and his wife. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Lynn to the Pembina-Manitou Ambulance Fund or the Boundary Trails Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I wish to express my deepest sympathy to Lynn Mitchell's family upon his recent passing. I will remember him from my many trips to Manitoba fiddle contests and the International Peace Garden as an accompanist, enjoying the energy and joy he shared with his music to others. He will be remembered as one who enjoyed fiddling and fellowship by those who associated with him. - Posted by: Trent Bruner (Acquaintance) on: Feb 07, 2011
