ANN THOMSON ADIE MACKELLAR (nee Nosworthy) February 8, 1934 - February 4, 2011 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ann MacKellar. Ann is survived by her two children: Ian (Heather) and Allison Stewart (Andrew) and her grandchildren Madison, Callum and Tavin; her brother Donald and his children, Don, Dave, Doug and Debbie, and brother Garth (Leslie) and their children, Lindsay and Gregory. Ann was born February 8, 1934 in Winnipeg and grew up in Norwood. She attended Queen Elizabeth School and Norwood Collegiate. After high school, Ann decided to pursue a career in education and enrolled in Manitoba Teachers College. Upon graduation, she taught at both Windsor and Ashland Schools. While working as a teacher, Ann met and ultimately married Peter MacKellar and started a family. Ann and Peter left the prairies to relocate to Ottawa, but were back in Winnipeg a mere four years later. Four years after returning to Winnipeg, the family was on the move again, this time to London, Ontario. Eventually the call of home brought Ann back to Winnipeg. Ann's passion for clothes and jewelry led her to a late in life career at a number of retailers: Birks, Mappin's and Young's Jewelry. Ann's favourite position was with Port's Clothing in Polo Park, Winnipeg. Ann was also an accomplished artist. Her oil paintings are hanging on walls of many homes across the country and as far away as Sweden. Ann's love of art and her hometown inspired her to sketch many of the historical scenes around Winnipeg; these images ultimately being available in a series of locally sold greeting cards. Ann's passion for Winnipeg was trumped however by her love for her children and grandchildren; the sun rose and set on them. And even though many miles separated them, there was never a day that she didn't speak of, or called to say how much she loved and missed them. Ann fought a short but courageous battle with cancer. The last months were very special as the family was reunited around her. The family wishes to thank the Staff at the Grace Hospice for their tireless efforts to bring both comfort and care. This will never be forgotten. In accordance with Ann's wishes cremation has taken place. If friends so desire, donations can be made to either to the Grace Hospice or Canadian Cancer Society.
