JOHN LAWRYNIUK March 13, 1933 - February 7, 2011 It is with loving memories and sad hearts we announce the passing of John Lawryniuk at Concordia Hospital on February 7, 2011 at the age of 77. He leaves to mourn his wife Edna (nee Lesage); daughter Norma (Barry) Bentham, sons Richard (Kim) Devloo, Gilbert (Kim) Devloo and Gerald (Heather) Devloo; eight grandchildren, Allana (Jeff), Nicholas (Jackie), Melissa (Ryan), Mark, Keenan, Nicole, Brett and Jason, and; seven great-grandchildren, Garrett, Taylor, Hannah, Aaron, Kyra, Eden and Max. He also leaves to mourn his brothers, Walter (Helen), Ted and Bill and his sisters, Lillian (Bert) Fraser-Reid, Ruth (John) Stepanuik and Helena (Al) Mushumanski, in-laws Henry (Roma), Jeanne, Laurette and Alice Lesage, and Hermance (Tony) Messner as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. John was predeceased by his parents Dymtro and Paraskiwa Lawryniuk; brother Fred (Daria); sister Anne (Ralph) Bryson; sisters-in-law Susan, Joan, Andrea (Roland) Rheault, and; brothers-in-law Leo, Germain, Aime (Dorothy), Raymond and George Lesage. John was born in Overstone, Manitoba and raised on the family farm outside Dominion City. In 1953 he moved to Winnipeg and started his working career at Burns Meats. In 1954, he decided that he needed a change and trained to be a meat inspector and was hired by Agriculture Canada in 1968 where he worked until he retired in 1993. John met Edna in 1974 and even four kids did not deter him from marrying her in 1976. They have called Winnipeg home ever since. In his early years John was quite a baseball player. He had many interests such as camping, cottaging, curling and travelling but his favourites were fishing at Anama Bay and Hillock and hunting at Binscarth and Treherne. John enjoyed attending family reunions where he was always a willing participant in; Belgium bowling, golfing, horseshoes and card competitions. He loved to reminisce about old times and reconnect with family. John and Edna loved to travel, their most recent trip being to Newfoundland this past June. They also regularly took bus trips to casinos in the United States. John was devoted to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to their visits, taking them to movies or bowling, mini golf and to the park and hearing about their progresses. John was a member of the Grant Memorial Baptist Church. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Avenue West.
