Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIDA MARIE ROSE MONTROY (nee De Carle) December 20, 1924 - February 8, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, with her daughter by her side, at Tudor Personal Care Home in Selkirk on February 8, 2011. She was predeceased by her beloved husband George in 1987, precious son Louis in 2005, mother Mary Jane, father Frederic, brothers George, Joe, Gordon, Fred, Ben and sister Helen. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Aileen, granddaughters Nicolle (Jon), Danielle (John), Renee (Colin), Cobina and Teresa (Gerry), great-grandchildren Carter, Olivia, Jessica, Harley, Jordyn, Josh, Keahna, Emma and Brian. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Eileen, sisters Lorraine Schilke and Virginia (Lloyd) Mackie, brother Lloyd, sister-in-law Shirley De Carle, nephew Floyd Montroy (Marge) of The Pas, niece Marie-Louise Montroy of Winnipeg and numerous other nieces and nephews. Born in Winnipeg, Ida lived and worked there until she enlisted in the army in 1942. She trained in Winnipeg, Shilo, Vermillion and Red Deer, AB to become a driver and mechanic for army jeeps, station wagons and lorries of all sizes. She also was a chauffeur to top brass when they arrived on base. This was a time of many fond memories for Mom. She savoured the responsibilities that went along with the job and also the solid bonds of friendship that she and her fellow comrades shared. After she was discharged at the end of the war, she married George, the love of her life, on February 14, 1946. She became a Cartwright farm girl overnight and could make a pickle, can a fish or help feed a thrashing gang like she had been doing it for years. During this time they were blessed with two children, Louis and Aileen. Some years later, George took a job with Grey Goose Bus Lines and this required the family to move to Gimli and later to Riverton, Manitoba. Ida quickly got involved in the community through the activities of her children and then branched out into her own interests. She played a vital role in many major developments in the community such as the Riverton District Friendship Centre, Ambulance, Riverton Credit Union, and Riverton Housing Authority to name just a few. She worked in the Post Office for over 30 years, with the last ten years as Post Master. Upon retiring from the post office, she then decided to completely retire from public service. These quiet years allowed her to enjoy her great-grandchildren. Aside from a summer trip taken with her sisters and sister-in-law, Ida cherished her time around home. In 2000, mom broke her hip and this unfortunately was the beginning of her health decline. Over the years, other traumas contributed to her need for more outside help and eventually leading to total care. The family would like to thank her special care givers at Tudor House. We are so grateful for your kindness shown to Mom. Funeral services will be held at the Riverton Fellowship Circle on Monday, February 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Bisson officiating. Burial will take place at the St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
