PAULINE GEORGIANA FRANCES SELVER With deep sadness we announce the passing of Frances on February 12, 2011. She died peacefully, following a lengthy illness, surrounded by her family. Frances leaves to mourn her husband of 53 years, Alf; her sons Rob (Gail), Don (Lesli), and Scott (Sharmaine); as well as her grandchildren Max, Sebastian, Dana and Alix Tessler, Amanda, Ryan and Tyler Kalic. Born in Winnipeg in 1930 Frances lived much of her early years in St. Vital. She attended United College, training to be a teacher, and that is where, in 1954, she met her future husband Alf. They married during an Easter break from teaching on April 18, 1957. She taught until 1962 when she put her career on hold to raise her children. Absent from teaching for 14 years she returned to university to earn a Master's Equivalency degree and went on to teach French in a variety of Winnipeg schools until her retirement in 1995. Frances enjoyed travelling with her family but most of all was able to endure the harsh Winnipeg winters with the anticipation that summers would be spent at her treasured cottage in Kenora. It was here that she was the happiest and we're grateful that she was able to spend the last summer of her life in that peaceful setting. She enjoyed a variety of activities including bowling, bridge, attending the symphony and ballet and was a long time member of School Master's Wives, the IODE and St. Andrew's United Church. She participated in and supported these activities passionately until illness limited her involvement. Although faced with a series of health challenges in the later part of her life Frances never faltered in her determination, and tackled these challenges with admirable strength and courage. The family would like to thank the staff of HSC-D4, MICU and particularly Dr. J. Johnston of CancerCare MB - in whom Frances held the utmost trust and faith - for his dedication and care over the past two years. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson In the Park , 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Reception to follow interment. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Frances may be made to CancerCare MB or a charity of your choice.
