WILLIAM (BILL) JOHNSON November 17, 1920 - February 14, 2011 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Johnson of Starbuck, Manitoba on Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 90 years. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Lily Johnson, great-granddaughter Stephanie Rasmussen, and special friend Tom Halstead. He will be sadly missed by his wife and soulmate Phyllis, his sons Fred (Kim) and Gary (Barb); his grandchildren, Harley and Justin Johnson, Shane (Alaine), Samantha, Alic, Jesse, and Reese Rasmussen, Todd, Tyler, Alyssa and Jessica Rasmussen, Krista (Tony), Kelly and Tjay Staruch; cousins Carol and Ray McCarthy, and Jim and Roxy Vernon and their families; as well as many extended family. He will be fondly remembered as uncle Bill to many. Bill married Phyllis (Ward/Rasmussen) on July 2, 1955 and became a father to Gary, Fred arrived in 1957 completing the family. Bill was born and raised in Starbuck, Manitoba, the only child of Fred and Lily Johnson. He lived all his life in the area. Although an only child he spent much of his time with the Morse and Burns families who were his lifelong neighbours. He was a farmer and enjoyed doing so until very recently. Bill enjoyed playing cribbage, against anyone even his great-grandchildren and never, ever just let them win, they had to earn it. He enjoyed his floor shuffleboard and being amongst his dear friends. He was up on world events and kept himself informed of the happenings around him. He was very independent but was always there to lend a helping hand to a friend or stranger. His family was his life and they thought the world of him. We will miss you dear husband, Dad, Papa and Great Papa. Rest in Peace. Thank you so much to Dr. Penner, and the nurses and staff at GH4. We appreciate all that you did for Bill and for the family. In lieu of flowers, Bill's desire would be for memorials to be made to the Silver Lining Roof Fund, c/o of Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 118, Starbuck, MB R0G 2P0. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Starbuck. Interment will be at a later date. NEIL BARDAL INC.
