NICHOLAS THEODORE HALAS After a lengthy illness on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Holy Family Home, Nicholas Halas, beloved husband of Mina. Along with his wife Mina (nee Lena Palahniuk) of 52½ years, Nick is survived by his children, Paul (Joanne), Michelle (Derek Moore), George (Lily), Dianne (Arley Laroque); grandchildren, Frances and Tyler Halas, Odessa Moore, Natalina and Orina Halas, Taitum, Keesyn and Koby Laroque; brothers, Raymond (Elinore) and Gerald; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; extended family, Eleanore and John Debroni, Dr. Richard and Pat Palahniuk, Michael and Lynda Palahniuk and many friends. Nick was predeceased by his parents, Stella and Nicholas Sr.; sister Angela; brother William and his wife Elsie; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Nick was born at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg on June 18, 1928. He spent most of his life working at N. Halas and Sons Hardware. Nick was a long time member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree, St. Josaphat Council and 4th Degree, Canon Luhovy Assembly; Men's Club of St. Nicholas Church; Bingo Clubs of both St. Nicholas and St. Andrew's Churches and the Perogy Workers of St. Nicholas Church. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 19 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. with a Basilian Father officiating. Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Service will terminate at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church Improvement Fund.
