GORDON HARRY RUSSELL With sadness the family announces the sudden death of Gordon Harry Russell on February 12, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital where he succumbed after a brave struggle with cancer. Just three days before he was still looking forward to dessert . He would have been 70 in April. Gord was the son of Fred and Isabel Russell of Norwood who predeceased him, as did his nephew Jon. He is survived by two brothers and their families - Brian and Helen of Campbell River, BC, his niece Gillian (Frédérik) and their son, Finn of London, England; Allan of Winnipeg, his nephews Cory (Jennifer) and their son, Sydney, of Winnipeg, and Cameron (Sarah) of Edmonton, AB. He worked for many years at the CPR. His passion was fishing. Uncle Gord was patient with the kids in teaching them the sport. His well equipped locker by the dock was always open to them and, as they grew, to their friends as well. Gord was never happier than when he was at the family cottage at Laclu, ON. All he needed was a boat and a fishing rod. A cottage wall is covered with his trophy fish (and occasionally after the kids' parties an empty beer bottle in the mouth of the 24 pound pike). In later years he spent time at Roy's Camps at Laclu where Julie always welcomed him. He also enjoyed bowling. The family will be forever grateful to family friend, Joan Powell, who always made time for Gord, helping him with appointments, shopping and meals, and including him in her family celebrations. A private ceremony will take place and the family will have a gathering at Laclu in the summer.
