RONALD GEORGE BASHFORD Peacefully, on February 12th, 2011, in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, Ron passed away at the age of 75 years. He is survived, and will be sadly missed, by his four children, Rhonda Beddome (Gregg), Cory Bashford (Susanne), Cindy Scheer (Kevin), and Joel Bashford (Anne Ray); his grandchildren, Aaron and Daniel Beddome, Emily and Joshua Bashford, and Mitchell and Maya Scheer; sisters June Cowan (Walter) and Edith Carrier (Rene); special friend Betty Snell and many relatives and friends. Ron was predeceased by his mother, Daisy, his father, Albert, his brothers, Raymond and Ernest Bashford, and his ex-wife June Bashford. Ron was born in Pierson, Manitoba and spent his youth in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He started his professional career at CKDM radio in Dauphin, Manitoba, where he met June Seeley. They were married and raised their four children in Winnipeg, Regina, and Dauphin. Ron spent many years with CBC Winnipeg, and CBC Regina as a television producer. He produced many documentary films for both CBC and the National Film Board. His work allowed him to travel and to meet many interesting people, whose stories he loved to tell in the various media in which he worked. In later years, Ron went back to his roots as a radio broadcaster and journalist while living in Indiana. Ron was a talented writer, but his passion was photography - he always had a camera in his hand, and the photographs and films that he leaves behind will be his gift to all of us. Ron was never at a loss for words. His sense of humour, quick wit, intelligence, generosity, and love of family will be remembered by all of those who knew him. Ron retired to Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, where he found solitude in the simple life: reading, gardening, and being close to nature. A service will take place in Dauphin, Manitoba on Saturday, February 19th at the Riverside Evergreen Funeral Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services 1-877-243-4459
