MCDOUGALL (MAC OR DOUG) ALLEN 1931 2011 It is with sadness and fond memories that we announce the passing of Mac on February 15, 2011 at the Kildonan Personal Care Home. Mac was born in Winnipeg on February 7, 1931 and had just celebrated his 80th birthday. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Nellie (Mulder), son Rob (Cheryl) and granddaughter Kayla, son Jim (Michelle) and granddaughters Meaghan (Joe) and Chelsea. Mac is also survived by his sister Margaret Huculak of Thompson, and sister-in-law Lois Allen of Dawson Creek. He is also survived by Nellie's brothers Everett, Dick, and George Mulder, her sister Areen, along with nephews, nieces and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, a son who died at birth May 23, 1970, and his brother Ron Allen of Dawson Creek, BC. Mac was born in St. Vital and then moved to Prince Rupert. Mac joined the Canadian Army at the age of 13 along with his brother Ron while his mother worked in the shipyards to support the war effort. At the end of the Second World War, Mac moved back to Manitoba where he met his wife Nellie who he married in 1955. Mac and Nellie resided in East St. Paul for over 50 years. Mac joined the Winnipeg Police Service in 1952 retiring in 1988 as Superintendent. He loved his career and this was reflected with numerous commendations. After retiring from the Police Service he joined the Royal Bank as Manager of Corporate Security. From 1967 to 1972 Mac was also Manager of R.C. Owen Transport and took on the challenge of restructuring and managing the trucking operation that was sold in 1972. Because of his love of trucks and the Transport Industry Mac was a partner and developed another truck transportation company, Park Transport into a successful and respected trucking operation. He loved MACK trucks and enjoyed spending time working with his sons Rob and Jim on maintaining them. Mac and the boys had many adventures and lasting memories servicing the equipment in the field, wherever the trucks were working. Mac truly loved working with the trucks and the drivers who operated them. He made many lifelong friends in the trucking industry. He was appointed Sergeant of Arms of the Manitoba Legislature, served on the R.C.M.P. Public Complaints Commission, the Board of Legal Aid of Manitoba. Mac loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, going hunting and shooting with his sons, flying his airplane, and growing his beautiful roses that he shared with everyone. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Mac's life will be held at John Black United Church, 898 Henderson Highway on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at the church. Because of allergies flowers are gratefully declined.
