MARY BERNICE ISABEL MILLER With her family at her side Mary passed away on February 18, 2011 at Kildonan Personal Care Home. Mom was predeceased by her husband Ray in 1990, and her brothers Robert and Norman. She is survived by her sons Robert (Patricia), Barry (Sharon), and Patrick (Cathy), and her grandchildren Jamie, Jason (Lynn), Breanne (Chris), Devon, Jordyn, Sarah, Brian and her great grandson Cameron, her sisters-in-law Nellie Pukalo and Pat Kolomic-Strong and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mom was born in 1918 in Barrie, Ontario to Louise and Robert Johnson. After graduating from Barrie Collegiate Institute she attended the Barrie Business Collegiate and was employed at Clarke and Clarke Company for five years. Mom and Dad were married in 1941 and took up residence in East St. Paul in 1945 where she devoted many years to insuring her three sons learned so many valuable lessons in life. After the boys were all in school mom began her 28 year employment with the School Board Offices of the East Kildonan District and later the River East School Division, first as a secretary and then as administrative secretary till her retirement in 1986. Mom touched the lives of most employees not only in the performance of her job but even more so in the sincere, gracious and dedicated manner in which she carried out her daily tasks. Her contribution to the efficiency of the board office and to the whole division was so often acknowledged and appreciated by all whom she dealt with. Her love and dedication to her family will always be treasured. Gentle, loving, and thoughtful, she always placed the needs of others before herself. Mom spent many wonderful years after Dad's death looking after her flowers and garden with the help of her two best friends Jasmin and Buffie, who followed her everywhere. She was a member of St. Stephens Anglican Church and the East St. Paul Seniors Club and always enjoyed her Sunday breakfasts with her close friends. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Fred Douglas and Kildonan Personal Care Homes who provided her with such excellent care during her final years and a special thanks to Rev. Diane Guilford who provided Mom and her family with much support during her final days. At her retirement one of her co-workers said this of Mom: She stood tall in the board office day after day, and solved many problems in her own quiet way. She is the kind of friend most people need, to have this lady as a friend, you were so lucky indeed. Mary was not the kind to blow her own horn, she had a certain shyness, which I think is inborn. There is far too few in this world of Mary's kind, women like Mary are truly hard to find. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in her memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice. No further away than a picture, a smile or remembered phrase, our loved ones live in memory, so very close in so many ways. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca
