FLORENCE POLLREIS Peacefully on February 12, 2011, Florence Pollreis passed away at her home in Winnipeg. June 3rd of this year would have been her 97th birthday. Although she struggled somewhat in the last few months, she lived a wonderful and fulfilling life. She lived and worked the majority of her life in Winnipeg. Florence lived an interesting life. As a young child she struggled with the death of her father and as a young wife and mother, following the untimely death of her husband Tony, she managed to create an environment for her children, relatives and friends to prosper. She started a working career at The Hudson's Bay Company and later at Progress Candy. She enjoyed a lengthy and vibrant retirement. Florence remained very active and independent into her late 80s. She was well known for her knitting and crocheting skills and always had a project on the go for her family and friends. Florence excelled at bowling and also enjoyed playing cards and bingo, spending time with her grandchildren, and watching curling and baseball on TV. Florence is survived by her three children, Judy (Ed) Bailey, Gordon (Dianne) and Gary Pollreis; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Bonnie) Pollreis, Cheryl (JP) Gervais, Brian (Joy) Pollreis, Laurie (Glen) Mernett, Erin (Steve Vinden) Bailey, Jena Anderson, and Rosie and Lily Pollreis; eight great-grandchildren, Owen, Paige, Caleb and Alora Pollreis, Fiona and Finn Vinden, and Luc and Lauren Gervais. The family would like to acknowledge the care given to their mother while she resided at both Misericordia Care and Fred Douglas Lodge. There will be a celebration of her life this summer. An announcement will follow at a later date regarding the service.
