Date of Passing: Feb 24, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGWENN BORSOS (nee BUCHAN) 1930 - 2011 Peacefully, on February 24, 2011, Gwenn passed away at Grace Hospital due to complications of Parkinson's disease and congestive heart failure. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 55 years George, daughters Karen (Carmen Arnone), Brenda (Michael Evans) and Dawn (Jon McGoey) and grandchildren, Andrew and Nikki Evans, Michael and Keelan McGoey. She also leaves to mourn her sisters-in-law Anne Borsos and Lila Buchan, niece Arleen Simmons and family. Gwenn was predeceased by her parents and brother Keith Buchan. Gwenn was born and spent her life in Winnipeg. She was a 1949 alumnus of Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate and graduated from St. Boniface Hospital as a laboratory technician in 1952. She spent two years working at the Lake Regional Clinic in Devil's Lake, North Dakota before returning home to begin her life with George. They were married in 1955 and Gwenn worked in the medical field until the girls were born. The rest of her life was devoted to her three great loves - her family, her friends and her community. As the girls grew up, Gwenn was an active participant in all of their activities. Whether attending swim meets, gymnastic events or bearing the sound of an organ not always well played, she was always there to support and celebrate their accomplishments. She opened her heart and kitchen to all the girls' friends and was thought of by many as their second mom. Throughout her life, Gwenn was a faithful and dedicated member of Silver Heights United Church. She was a member of the UCW, bible study, the church choir and a CGIT leader. She spent years organizing the church's annual fowl supper and many other fundraising activities. Gwenn was a long time volunteer at the Winnipeg Art Gallery and enjoyed cherished friendships as a member of the PEO - Chapter H, the stitchery group, the YMHA and spent many years chipping out of the rough as a member of Bel Acres Golf Club. This last year has shown just how much she meant to her friends by the endless support they provided to her and George for which we are eternally grateful. A service in memory of Gwenn will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 28 at Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue. A private Interment will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Dr. A. N. Schroeder and Dr. R. Kroeker for their wonderful care and assistance, the home care workers who became part of our extended family and all the staff on 2 South at Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers donations in Gwenn's memory may be made to the Parkinson Society, 7-414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R2J 1P2 or a charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL INC.
