KENNETH DOUGLAS (DOUG) WADDELL July 21, 1931 - February 23, 2011 With his family by his side, Doug passed away peacefully on February 23, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 79. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Jackie, his children Garth (Jan) and Harley (Tara) and grandchildren Brayden, Parker, Robyn and Morgan. He is also survived by his sister Doreen Dowle (Glen), brother Ron (Martha) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Lorna (Marge) and his brother Arnold. Doug was born in Winnipeg and moved a number of times with his family before settling in Sperling at the age of 12, where he lived on his grandparents' farm. He was a very good athlete, playing baseball and hockey on many local teams and setting the provincial high school record for the triple jump. In 1951, he moved to Birds Hill where he met and married Jackie and where he remained until his death. He spent over 35 years working at B.A.C.M. and its related companies in many capacities, but he especially enjoyed his years employed as its purchasing agent and insurance administrator. Doug was very involved in the community. He was a past-president and one of the founding members of the East St. Paul Curling Club. He was also very involved with the community club, coaching and managing many of his sons' hockey, soccer and baseball teams. He was passionate about his annual hunting trip to Newdale or to the Shack with his friends. Planning and preparing for the trip was as big an endeavour as was the trip itself, and brought almost as much enjoyment! He was a devoted grandfather who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren or traveling around the city watching them play hockey and ringette. In his latter years, he could be counted on to drive his many friends into the city for various appointments and shopping trips. Doug also loved to watch the birds flock to the numerous feeders he had placed throughout his property. The family would like to give a special thank you to Gary and Diane Keedian for their years of love and support. We would also like to thank the many doctors and nurses who have cared for Doug over the last several years, particularly Doctors Oscar and Sheila Domke, Dr. Sathianathan at the St. Boniface Hospital Renal Health Department and Dr. Malik at the St. Boniface Hospital Cardiac Program. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Gordon-King Memorial United Church, 127 Cobourg Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
