ARTHUR HERBERT BETKE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather Art. Art died on February 26, 2011, at the age of 76, at his residence in Moosehorn, MB. Art was born February 20, 1935 in Wolverine, MB to Edward and Theresa Betke. He was the youngest of eight children: Leo, an unnamed brother who died at childbirth, Alfred (deceased), Rose (deceased), Edward, Ralph, Norman (deceased) and Art. Art married Elizabeth Romaniuk (deceased) in 1956. Art is survived by his two children Martin (Tracey) Betke, and Theresa (Bill) Rea and his seven grandchildren: Christopher, Kyle, Trinity, Hayden, Loren, Trish, and Jessica. Art had many interests in life - curling (which he was still doing), baseball, cards, and of course his business. His most important interests were his family. First and foremost were his grandkids. He lived for them. He loved them. His face lit up when they came to visit and he was sure to let everyone know that they had come to see him. If their car was not working, Grampa would be fixing it. It didn't matter what they needed, Grampa was always there for them and they knew it. Art was a certified GM mechanic and worked for Clements in Russell, MB until 1962 and continued as a mechanic in various locations around Manitoba until 1968 when he started up Betke Trucking. Dad continued to operate his construction business throughout his life. He semi-retired seven years ago but was still doing odd jobs at the time of his passing. Art was always helping somebody when they needed it. He didn't think twice. A good natured person and a hard working man. He believed in giving 100% whether it be at work or play. Always do your best. His ideals live on with his family. We will miss him immensely, but he will always be with us in our hearts. As per Art's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern, MB on Sunday, March 6, 2011 with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Service will conclude at the Chapel with an interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
