MARTIN PHILIP WESTERVELT 1960 - 2011 Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17. Peacefully at home on March 1, 2011 our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, went to be with his Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Lucy, children Tyler (Lillian), Stacie, Owen and Miranda. Martin is also survived by his father William, sister Ann (Ron), brothers John (Janine), Henry (Blandina) and Clarence (Geraldine). Predeceased by his mother Rika and father-in-law Herman Jaspers. Martin was a devoted husband and father. He was a lifetime member of Transcona Christian Reformed Church. His faith, love and commitment in His Redeemer were evident throughout his life and specifically sustained him throughout the past year with failing health. His unwavering faith and thankfulness was a blessing and encouragement to many. Family time and events were a priority to him. Many long hours spent on the family skating rink in the winter months and camping in the summer created lifelong memories that will be forever cherished by his family and friends alike. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Transcona Christian Reformed Church, 131 Victoria Ave. W. Interment at Sunnyside Cemetery, with procession beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 5 at Transcona Christian Reformed Church. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 5 at 11:30 a.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave. Should friends desire, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
