PHILLIP EUGENE MARTIN February 12, 1925 March 1, 2011 Phillip passed away peacefully at age 86 at the Deer Lodge Centre on March 1, 2011 in the wee hours, with two daughters at his side, after a day spent with his beloved wife Jeanne, loving family and friends. Phil leaves Jeanne, his devoted wife of 62 years, their six children Colleen (Al Connelly), Kathie (Doug May), Christine Martin, Ken Martin (Michelle), Kellie Martin (Schellenberg) and Connie (Brad Mart), and 16 grandchildren, and an ever increasing number of great grandchildren. Phil's early childhood was spent on the farm at Baldur, MB and in the nearby town of Belmont. Phillip was predeceased by his parents and his only sibling, his younger brother Hugh Martin of Brandon. Dad worked as a welder for TCA (now Air Canada) then rejoined the air force in 1955 where he put in 20 years at Portage and Winnipeg. Upon retirement to civilian life he went to work at the water plant at Headingley Jail for 10 years before true retirement. As a young man, Dad found a community of brothers and sisters in AA. These folks have lifted him up and has been his extended family through 52 years of sobriety. Next to the unfailing devotion of his wife, Phil's AA family has been his constant source of strength and courage. Phil and Jeanne lived many years in St. James, on Conway and Duffield, then in the Courts of St. James. When Dad moved to Deer Lodge Centre in November 2008, he found another loving community of residents, staff and volunteers. He and Mom have been so very appreciative of the quality of life Dad was able to have there. Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone on Tower 7 and to all the staff and faithful volunteers. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations to Deer Lodge Centre will honour Phillip's Memory. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. • Hello, I am trying to trace the family of Jeanne Schneider Martin Copeland. Jeannes mother, Annie H A Copeland is the sister of my grandfather W R Copeland. I am sorry to take this unusual step but it is all I have to go on. If I have the right family, please contact me. Thanks, George - Posted by: george southam () on: May 10, 2012
