Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN VATNSDAL Jean Vatnsdal (nee Thompson) was born on July 13, 1918 and passed away peacefully on March 3, 2011. It is with great sadness that the family announces her passing. Jean spent the last seven years of her life at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg where she made many friends and where she received exceptional care from everyone working at the Home. Jean was predeceased by her husband Walter, father George and mother Isabella, brothers Bill and Lloyd and sisters Mary, Gert, Isabelle, and Mini. She is survived by her three children, Paul (Ann), Mark (Jackie), Gail (Jean-Guy), grandchildren, Brinka, Kirsten, Signey, Thorunn, Fred, and Emma. Also surviving her are her sisters Edith and Lil. Jean was born and raised in Holland, MB. She began life on a farm in a large hard working family. Jean was fond of telling stories of her school years. One of her jobs off the farm was to ride her horse to school early in the morning to start the fire to warm the schoolhouse. Jean eventually became a nurse and was proud of her work in The Pas and at Shilo where she cared for German prisoners during the war. She met Walter and married and they moved to their home in Riverview where they raised their children. Mom loved to garden, bake and take long, long walks but her grandchildren were her greatest source of pride and joy and she loved them dearly. The family would like to thank everyone, administration and staff, at The Convalescent Home. They always provided the very best in care and went above and beyond with the special care they gave Jean during her last few days. She was loved and will be missed by all. Special thanks go to Evelyn Golembioski for her years of friendship and care.
