YURI ABE 1951-2011 It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Yuri Abe on Saturday, February 26, 2011. She was surrounded by her loving family who will miss her dearly. Yuri's inner strength allowed her to live her life on her own terms. She was able to live at home until the end, as was her wish. She had a long career at the Health Services Commission where she made many life long friends. She had a great love of travel, music and sports and avidly followed the travails of the Bombers. She especially adored her nieces and nephews and their children. Yuri enjoyed nothing better than spending time with the little ones. Yuri endured many years of health challenges but she remained, as one doctor said, feisty and determined to live her life with a positive attitude and a sense of humor. Yuri was predeceased by her father, Yoshimaru Abe. She leaves to mourn her passing her mother, Yoshi Abe, brother Kazu Abe (Leslie), sisters Yumi Falk, Miki Stewart (Ken) and Amy Murray (Ken), loving nieces and nephews and the Oike Family. We would like to say a special thank you to Melainie Stewart, Carol Downey and the Oike cousins for their support and comfort during this difficult time as well as to all Yuri's friends who kept in touch with her throughout her retirement. We'd also like to thank the many health care professionals who assisted Yuri during her life. Yuri has been cremated and her life will be celebrated at a private family service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Manitoba Lung Association at 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB. R3A 1P6 may be made in Yuri's memory.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Decades and distance have separated me from my friend, but I was shocked and sad to find that Yuri does not share the world with me. I am sorry to hear that she had been suffering with illness. She was my first and best friend when I arrived in Winnipeg. She had the most wonderful memory...and the best marks in school and was respected by all her classmates. She was always proud of her family and her cousins next door. We had a lot of fun together and shared many important teen discussions. My condolences to her family and friends. - Posted by: Rebecca Wood (friend) on: Nov 06, 2013
