PHILIP WALDBAUER March 15, 1923 - February 26, 2011 With deep sadness, Phil's family announce his peaceful passing at Teulon Hospital. Phil will be lovingly missed by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn; daughter Barbara and husband Phillip Zoski; son Rod and wife Darlene and their sons: Jamie (Jennifer) and great-granddaughters Keira and Brooklyn; and Cameron (Brooke). He is also survived by his sister Emma Young of Saskatoon. Phil was born and raised in Killaly, SK. He proudly served overseas with the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War. Phil worked at numerous jobs after the war before beginning a long and successful career with United Grain Growers, starting in Grandview, and for 26 years in Benito. Upon retiring he worked for Manitoba Crop Insurance for nine seasons. Phil was a dedicated Legion member in Benito, and held numerous executive positions. For many years he thoroughly enjoyed camping and fishing. In recent years he'd eagerly prepare weeks in advance for his annual Father's Day fishing weekend with Rod. Many hours were spent manicuring his lawn, shrubs and flowers; receiving awards for an immaculate yard. Feeding and watching birds was also a favourite pastime. Phil grew up in a musical family developing a lifelong love for music. When Phil and Evelyn sold their boat they toured Manitoba and Saskatchewan in their motor home, attending polka fests and making many new, lifelong friends. They were known as the Waltzing Waldbauers. Many hours were enjoyed watching and listening to tapes of favourite bands and polka fests; and cheering on favourite sports teams on TV. In 2005 Phil and Evelyn moved from Benito to Teulon to be closer to family. They enjoyed the senior's dances in the area. He kept busy at their Farview residence. In summer Phil would be out tending to the lawn and flowers, and in winter cleaning snow off cars and shoveling sidewalks (right up to last Saturday). He often said, I'd rather wear out than rust out. Family times were always special; especially whenever he saw his grandsons and great-granddaughters. Sharing stories of growing up in the 1920s and 1930s and his mischievous experiences were always enjoyed; as well as his supply of jokes he always had on hand. Respecting Phil's wishes, cremation has taken place, and no service will be held. The family would like to thank the ambulance attendants and Teulon Hospital staff for their excellent and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital. I will always love you, Phil. I miss you.
