ELIZABETH LAFANTAISIE June 21, 1937 February 24, 2011 It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Elizabeth Lafantaisie on February 24, 2011. She will be lovingly remembered by her three children Lise (Lucien) Gosselin, Anna (Gilles) Maynard and Michel (Jen Chartrand) Paquette; her nine grandchildren Janine (Ryan), Micheline, Charmaine, André, Rossel, Natalie, Cody, Alexander and Elizabeth; and her three great-grandchildren Dominic, Joshua and Hailey. She will also be missed by her six sisters Simone (Paul), Yvette, Alice (Arthur), Gisèle, Lucienne (Richard), and Irène (Eddie); sister-in-law Gertrude; nieces, nephews, cousins and her many friends. Elizabeth was predeceased by her daughter France, grandson Réal, parents Arsène and Louise Lafantaisie, brother Ernest and brother-in-law Howard. Mom was a beautiful person inside and out, always dressed like a princess. People would say she looked like a million bucks. She was a great cook (known for her delicious pies) and loved to help others. She took pride in her cleaning abilities and would often tell us about the houses she cleaned and how she made things shine. Mom was known for her catchy laugh, it came from the heart and when she laughed, she never held back. It was so loud (and sometimes rather embarrassing in public) but now we would do anything to hear her laugh again. Mom loved life and was proud of her accomplishments. She was very independent and did everything by herself. Mom entered the workforce at 13 years old, married at 19 years old and raised four children, two of which were born with Cystic Fibrosis. Mom's priority was taking care of her sick children, and her family while always working full time. Her life was not always a walk through a garden. Her daughter France passed away of Cystic Fibrosis at 14 years old in 1975. In 1980, her 3½ week old grandson Réal (Lise's son) suddenly passed away, and in 1990 her daughter Lise was struck with Leukemia and needed a Bone Marrow Transplant in Vancouver. Then in 2004 her daughter Anna, with Cystic Fibrosis, had a double-lung transplant. Mom was always by our side through thick and thin. Her family was her life. She would often help us with daily chores, babysitting her grandchildren and would regularly touch base or visit her son Michel and his family, who live in BC. Her faith in God is what gave her strength and confidence. She read her bible every night, said her rosary every day and even carried it with her everywhere she went (including during her last hour). She has been on three pilgrimages to Medugorje in Croatia, and when she would return from those trips, we saw the passion in her eyes and the glow in her face from the growth of her faith in God, Jesus and Mary. She never missed the yearly St. Malo pilgrimage and the mass for the sick. Mom was loved by a lot of people and she truly loved those who loved her! Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and (grand pups) were her pride and joy. She would have given her shirt off her back to help at any time. Mom was very special to all of us. We are so blessed to have so many great memories of her, her tight hugs and her loud laughs. We thank you mom. You will never be forgotten. We know you are now with France and she is waiting for you with open arms. We love you Mom. We wish to thank Family, Friends and the Community of St. Malo, for all their heartfelt support and for all the food, flowers, cards and thoughtful words. A very special thank you to all Units involved with the Winnipeg Police Services. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Barry Schoonbaert at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Highway. Private family interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to the CancerCare Foundation. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 775-2220.
