Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLADYS ELIN FIDLER (NORQUAY) Peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2011 after a brief illness with her family by her side Gladys Fidler beloved wife of the late Frank Fidler passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Frank, son Chuck and grandson Greg Mahoney. She leaves to mourn her passing her stepdaughter Maura (Keith); children Lin (Jullian) of Winnipeg (Kevin Mahoney of Vancouver), Susan (Barry) Gooden of Brandon (Adam (Abby) of Brandon, Ashleigh (Corey) of Hartney, and Alicia of Brandon), Thor Norquay (Christopher, Kelsey and Jeremy of Selkirk) and Scott Norquay (Kim) of Selkirk (Thomas of Selkirk, Stacy (Josh) of Alberta, and Courtney of Selkirk). She also leaves to cherish her memory 11 great-grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Gladys was born in Winnipeg on June 13, 1927 where she was raised and attended school. She later met and married Tom Norquay and moved to Selkirk and got started on a family of five children. Gladys went on to take a position with the Lord Selkirk School Division where she worked for 25 years. She would then go on to accept a position with Norwood School Division and moved to Winnipeg. Gladys went on to marry Frank Fidler and together they resided in Winnipeg until their retirement. After retirement they returned to their true home, Selkirk. Gladys was a consummate mother which was evident by the number of her children's friends who knew her only as Mom. No task was too large or too small for her children whom she cherished unconditionally. Gladys was not your typical little old lady sitting in a rocker, she enjoyed watching the birds at her feeder outside the window which she happily identified with the help of a book she kept on the table next to her. She also enjoyed the Sunday nature rides with her family. Some of her favourite evenings were spent around a fire in the backyard. Gladys was also an avid reader of a variety of novels and enjoyed watching sports with her family, primarily curling and football. She was also not one to fall behind the times spending time every day on her computer forwarding emails and staying in touch with family, friends and relatives. Gladys was an active member of the Legion and the Over Sixty Club and attended the Friday Meat Draw, her last social outing. Gladys' family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Zoppa as well as the staff of the medical ward of the Selkirk General Hospital. The care and compassion shown to her during her brief stay there was beyond any expectation. In keeping with Gladys' wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Gladys' life will take place on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk with Reverend Stan Richards presiding. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, a donation in Gladys' memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
