BEULAH E. MONKE March 21, 1914 - February 2, 2011 Beulah Elizabeth Monke, adored wife of psychiatrist Dr. J. Victor Monke, died at home a few months shy of her 97th birthday. A many-year volunteer at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Beulah was elegant, feminine, feisty, occasionally fierce and often uncannily attuned to those she loved. She was a connoisseur of St. John suits and African art, of refined manners and hearty laughs and of music in all forms. Proud of her Irish heritage, Beulah was born in Winnipeg, Canada, to Carlisle Wilson and Sarah Anne Gardiner Kerr, progenitors of a highly musical family. She rebelliously emigrated to the U.S. about 20 years later, and met Victor while both were working at Wright Field in Ohio during the Second World War. They moved to Rochester, N.Y., then to Los Angeles, prior to adopting their sons Carlisle and Kevin. Both died about 20 years ago. Predeceased by her only sibling, singer Kerr Wilson, Beulah is survived by Victor; their grandson Logan Monke, her sister-in-law Thelma Wilson; her nephews and nieces Carlisle, Kerrine, Eric and Mark; and their children Tiffany, Keri-Lynn, Carlisle, Kristin, Erica, Jocelyn, Leonard, Thelma and Kristinn. A memorial service was held at Pierce Bros. Mortuary in Westwood, Los Angeles at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2011.
