MARIA REMPEL 1927 - 2011 It is with heavy hearts we announce that Maria passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre March 15, 2011 with her family close at hand. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 64 years, Henry, and her children Heinrich (Marianne), Gisela (Roland), Peter (Margaret Anne) and Rudy (Cheryl). Maria was proud grandmother to Andreas (Jessica), Mackenzie, Melinda and Freeman. Maria was born in Burwalde, Ukraine February 20, 1927. She was predeceased by her father, mother, one brother and three sisters. She is survived by two sisters. Maria's faith in God directed her life and carried her half way around the world. She valued service to others and enjoyed her time as part of the Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church Ladies' Auxiliary. Maria was the nucleus of her family. For 30 years she hosted weekly family night dinners. Everyone felt welcome at her table. The memories of these evenings will live on for all family and friends who attended. Maria was known for her genuine interest in others. Maria loved children and they were truly entranced in her company. Known as the cookie lady of Garfield Maria's baking was enjoyed by children, family and friends alike. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Singer, Rose, the Palliative Home Care Program especially Erlinda and Ann, and the staff of Riverview Health Centre. Funeral service Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m., at the Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, 926 Garfield with interment to follow in the Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church Cemetery in Springstein, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maria's memory can be made to the Mennonite Central Committee.
