ARTHUR THOMAS SANCHETTI October 20, 1922 March 17, 2011 It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden and peaceful passing of Arthur Sanchetti, a man of substance who was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Arthur will affectionately be remembered as an amazing human being. His gentle soul and kind nature was instantly apparent to everyone he met. Arthur was predeceased by his parents Ida and Thomas Sanchetti, brothers Anthony and Arthur Sanchetti and sister Mafalda Sanchetti. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Maria, children Gina Austin and Tommy Sanchetti, and twin grandchildren Angela and Alexandra Austin. Arthur was born of Italian immigrants in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was among our first set of school patrols and after school he helped his parents work at their store and do chores as they did not read or write English. He served in the Air Force and fought in the Second World War. He went to work with the railway and ended his professional career with 38 years at the Winnipeg Post Office. Arthur first met his soul mate Maria walking down the street one day, and needless to say, they later married and went on to spend 50 fun-filled, loving years together. Arthur loved his family and cherished his friends and neighbours. Always there unconditionally for everyone, he lived a life of service to others. Arthur was an excellent wine maker and enjoyed playing golf and fishing with his friends. However he gave all that up willingly to care for his autistic son Tom, whom he brought home every weekend for over 35 years from Selkirk Institute up until the week before he passed away. He helped in raising his granddaughters by visiting them often and participating in their upbringing while their mom was at work. Arthur never complained about the things in life that were not particularly fun. No matter what, he always saw the best in everyone and everything. Arthur loved life no matter what. Many thanks to all the medical care Arthur received over the years. Most recently a big thank you to his family doctor, Dr. Issac and staff, and Dr. Walters and his entire staff at the St. Boniface Hospital. Viewing will take place on Tuesday, March 22 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Holy Rosary Parish, 510 River Avenue, followed by the eulogies and funeral mass with Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Pallbearers are: John Martin, Mathew Elmore, Dale Elmore, Tony Perrella, Frank Perrella and Michael Dacquisto. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street with reception to follow at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations in Arthur's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the Kidney Foundation of Canada Manitoba Branch.
