Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET STEWART ALLAN (nee Smith) It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Margaret Allan on Friday, March 18, 2011 at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home. Margaret leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 61 years Joe Allan; three daughters: Barbara Pruden (Jeff), June Boaz (Jim) and Elaine Daoust (Danny); eight grandchildren: Shannon (Travis), Jay (Sarah), Andrew, Brett, Megan, Blake, Allan and Jessica; her brother Jim and sister-in-law Audrey and four nephews: Ian (Wendy), Gordon, Robert (Iris) and Stewart. Margaret was born on August 12, 1925 in Glasgow, Scotland and she immigrated to Canada in 1947 with her family. On April 22, 1950 she married Joseph Allan and they shared a wonderful life together. They had three daughters and eight grandchildren. In 1975 they bought a cottage (Braemar Cottage) at Brereton Lake and many happy times were spent there with friends and family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, always kind and caring, she always wanted to help out with problems because That's what Mums are for she always said. We will always be reminded of her through the many beautiful sweaters and baby shawls that she knitted. Always thinking of her family before her health declined she knit eight shawls and lovingly wrapped each one up so that each of her grandchildren would have one for their children. After Joe retired they began to take winter vacations in Mexico, Hawaii, and Arizona. One year they went to Australia and fell in love with the Gold Coast and every year after that their winter destination was always Australia. Our family is extremely grateful to the St. Norbert Personal Care Home for their excellent and tender care during her time there. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or the St. Norbert Personal Care Home, 50 St. Pierre Street, Winnipeg, MB R3V 1J6. In keeping with Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m. in Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.
