ASHLEY ERNEST EVANS June 1, 1918 - March 16, 2011 It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Ashley Ernest Evans on March 16, 2011 at Souris Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Bernice; family, Margaret (George) Baldwin of Victoria, BC, Marion Smart of Edmonton, AB, Bruce (Sharon) of Hartney, MB, Shirley (Dennis) LaRoque of Holland, MB, Bill (Joyce) of Airdrie, AB, and Bob (Patti) of Rossburn, MB; grandchildren, Wayne (Gina) Solomon, Susan (Marc) Morin, Trina Anderson, Jeff Smart (Lynn), Darren (Rachel) Smart, Terry (Rebecca) Smart, Lara (Mike) Pal, Darwin (Sharon) Evans, Keith Evans, Trisha Evans, Kim (Fernando) Evans, Rick LaRoque, Rieckie Evans, Shaun Evans, BJ (Alissa) Evans, Kyle (Stephanie) Evans and Jared Evans; great-grandchildren, Timothy, Sonia, Alex and Zoe Solomon, Nicole and Jonah Smart, Sean Smart, Tyler and Morgan Evans, Justin Evans, Hannah and Megan Evans and Kyle Anderson. Ashley is survived by his brother Mervin (Betty) of Dauphin, MB, sisters-in-law Helen Howard, Gwen (Dave) Griffin, Louise Callewaert and brother-in-law Bob Gardiner. Ashley was predeceased by his parents Charles and Ester (nee Lee) Evans, brother Harold, sister-in-law Polly, brother-in-law Irwin Howard, and son-in-law Harry Smart. Ashley received his schooling at Selton School and as a young man worked and lived in the Holland area before moving to what became his farm where he married and began raising his family. He moved his family to Landseer where he and Bernice ran the store and post office later moving back to the farm and also driving a school bus for many years. On leaving the farm, Ashley and Bernice moved to Sidney, BC and began a new career working for Eaton's Department Store. He and Bernice enjoyed their time camping with the grandkids and square dancing. They moved back to Manitoba to be closer to family and found a home in Hartney. While here, he enjoyed his daily trips to get the mail and take it to the Shop to see the guys. In November of 2010, a small group of family helped them to celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary with a supper and visiting at their home. Ashley spent the last year between Souris Hospital and the Hartney Personal Care Home. Funeral Service will be held at the Holland Community Hall, Holland, MB at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2011. Rev. Mark Murray officiating. Interment will follow in the Brookdale Cemetery. A time of memories and celebration to follow in the Holland Community Hall.
