SERGEANT LLOYD (DOC) KREAMER, MM June 17, 1921 - March 19, 2011 In the quiet, early hours of the morning on March 19, 2011, Lloyd passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital. Lloyd will be lovingly remembered by Helen, his devoted wife of 63 years; his children, Lorraine (Orest), Bruce (Charleen), Grant (Jean) and Colleen (Tim); grandchildren Daryle (Jenn), Kelly (Joey), Jill (Trevor), Adam, James, Kayla, Ellie, Lindse and, Jordy; great-grandson Gavyn. He is also survived by his sisters Hazel Schofield, Maimie (Ray) Pfeifer; sister-in-law Mildred Kreamer and many nieces and nephews and countless friends. He was predeceased by parents James and Lena; brothers Ray, Roy (Pearl) and Lorne; sisters Mae (Emil) Nelson, Ruby (Victor) Rogoski and son-in-law Dale Starkell. Lloyd was born in Cavalier, North Dakota in 1921. As a child the family moved to Netley, Manitoba in 1928. At age 15 Lloyd worked in the mines as a diamond driller until the Second World War broke out. Seeking adventure Lloyd enlisted with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry, serving overseas in England, Italy, Holland and Belgium for five and a half years. He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery. Lloyd was a member of the Selkirk and Winnipeg Beach Royal Canadian Legion for over 50 years. Lloyd met Helen at a dance at the Gimli Pavilion and they married the following year. They settled and raised their family in Netley where they resided for 50 years until they sold the farm and moved to Selkirk. Throughout the years Lloyd's greatest enjoyment was managing his baseball team, curling and most of all spending time with his family and friends. Lloyd made a lasting impression on everyone he met. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, with Rev. Ken Pawluk officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Daryle Starkell, Adam Kreamer, John MacKay, Ron Mazur, Barry Pfeifer. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Lloyd's memory may be made to Selkirk Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 42, 403 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB R1A 1N8.
