GINO NUCCI 1938 - 2011 It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden passing of Gino Nucci at the age of 72 years of age. Gino was predeceased by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, his brother and nephews. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosa, his son Sebastian and daughter Maria (Michael), his grandchildren Nikolas and Rachel and brother Emilio (Theresa) as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Gino was born in Grimaldi, Italy and came to Canada in 1961 with his wife and son in search for a better life. Gino worked very hard. He held jobs at both Old Dutch Potato Chips and Federal Pioneer Electric. In 1964, his daughter Maria was born and it was at that time, he and his wife Rosa made a decision to venture into business of their own. Nucci's Variety Shop came to be, this was the first of many Nucci projects. In 1971 Calabria Club came to be and it was then that Gino started experimenting in making Gelati . Gino travelled to Rome and purchased his first Gelato machine . The machine arrived in a crate that took a team of 15 men to carry! The Gelato man started his magic with the first few famous flavours: Pistachio, Nocciola, Chocolate, Almond, Armaretto, and of course the favourite Lemon! Gino and Rosa really felt that this was what Winnipeg needed! With each passing year a new flavour was added. Today Nucci's offers over 70 flavours for Winnipeg to enjoy. Gino created a legacy with Nucci's Gelati, which will carry on through his dedicated family. He loved his family and taught his children to work hard for what they want and be patient in order to get ahead. Gino was a stubborn man and was known to be grumpy at times. Gino had a heart of Gold and said anything that needed to be said. He was upfront and let it be clear and never behind your back. He was a man of principle and his word was as such.
