TANNYS (SMITH) MCKAY February 16, 1926 - March 21, 2011 Tannys was born and raised in Glenboro, the only daughter of Bay and Mayme Smith. The Smith family were early pioneers settling in Manitoba in 1877. Tannys' father was the Post Master in Glenboro from 1929 to 1965 and that meant the whole family was involved in getting the mail through . In the early days, a Sunday drive during harvest meant Tannys and her brother Bob would accompany their parents delivering mail and parcels to the farmers as there was not enough time to get to town to pick up the mail. After high school Tannys worked in the post office until her marriage to Harry McKay on April 20, 1950. Tannys and Harry lived in various towns in southern Manitoba when their family was young, finally making Crystal City their permanent home. Tannys was predeceased by her parents, her brother Bob and her husband Harry in 2005. Tannys and Harry raised a family of five children, two sons and three daughters. There was never a dull or quiet moment at the McKay house. There are endless stories of adventure and misadventure, laughter and tears, all of those things that wonderful memories are made of. Tannys will be deeply missed by her family, Ron and his wife Chris, Darryl and his wife Debra, Kim and her husband Phil Findlay, Kerri, Leanne and her husband Kelvin Kidd. Tannys was blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Chandra McKay, Meaghen McKay, Brodie McKay and his wife Sarah, Tatum and her husband Darren Uchman and their children Finn and Emerson, Tyler Findlay, Samantha and Madison Kidd, and her many granddogs . Tannys was always busy doing something in her community. She sang in the United Church choir for many years and was a member of the Legion Auxiliary. She worked at the hardware, the cafe, the hotel and helped Lillian out at the tea room. Tannys was a friend to many and a stranger to few. She was a familiar sight walking up to get the mail or to stop at the store - a true inspiration to us all. There was always a friendly wave or a visit when you went past the veranda at her home Our mom and grandma will be greatly missed and our family wants to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all of you for all that you have done. Your kindness and caring have meant so much to all of us. Thank you. A celebration of Tannys' life will take place Friday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Crystal City United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rock Lake Health Centre or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
