RITA MARIE ANNE DUHAMEL It is with great sadness in our hearts that the family announces our beloved Mother, Sister, Meme and Auntie Rita Marie Anne Duhamel (nee Gagne), age 85, died peacefully with her family by her side at the Atikokan General Hospital on March 21, 2011. Rita was born in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, July 5, 1925. She has a large, close, loving family, she raised nine children and lived in Atikokan for many years. She moved to Winnipeg in 1968 and returned to Atikokan in 2000. Rita had a beautiful spirit and a generous heart and was often the first to celebrate at many family gatherings. She enjoyed playing card games and spent many evenings with the family around a poker table. She also had a green thumb and would often spend countless hours in her gardens. Rita was predeceased by her parents, Antonin and Philomene Gagne; her sisters, Telia, Flora, Cecile, Benita, Evangeline and Rosa; brothers Albert, George and Rene; her husband, Antonin (Tony); her daughters, Doris and Irma, and her son, Larry. She is survived by her brother Henry Gagne; her sons Jerry, Joseph, Daniel and Bert; her daughters, Marlene and Darlene; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as the spouses and partners of her large family. Funeral services will be held at St. Patricks Roman Catholic Church in Atikokan, Ontario at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 25, 2011. Burial service in celebration of her life will be held at Sainte-Anne-des-Chenes Catholic Church in Ste. Anne, Manitoba at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2011. The family would like to thank the Atikokan General Hospital Extended Care staff, and in particular Michelle Anderson (granddaughter), for the personal, special care they provided Rita. The family would also like to thank Giselle and Rene Marion, and the White Otter Inn, for the kindness and generous support provided to our family. In lieu of flowers, the family request that you consider donations to the Atikokan Hospital Extended Care for a Sensory Stimulation Snoezelen Cart and/or CancerCare Manitoba.
