ETHEL ROBERTA BUCHANAN After a long and active life Ethel passed away peacefully on March 19, 2011. She was 94 years old. She was predeceased by husband John Buchanan, son Ian Buchanan, sisters Charlotte Goddard (Bert) and Hazel Green and in-laws Margaret Buchanan and Dorothy and Lloyd Atkinson. Ethel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Hazel and Lawrence Stoyko, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Karen McKim (Ken and children Signy and Shay), Catherine Stoyko (Stephen Shorey and daughter Alexandra), Winnipeg, Peter Stoyko, Ottawa, David Stoyko (Judy), Michael Buchanan (Kathy and daughters Emma and Ashley), Gavin Buchanan, John Buchanan (Laura), and Heather Buchanan all of Vancouver. Ethel will also be mourned by her former daughter-in-law, Karen Peterson, and her family who shared many years with the Buchanans. Ethel enjoyed a long and distinguished international career in education as a teacher, consultant, author, editor and in partnership as a book publisher and book seller. She was an active member of numerous professional and fraternal organizations. The family would like to sincerely thank the many people who have been so supportive of Ethel and her family over the least few years. The staff at the Westhaven, Grace Hospital, Deer Lodge Centre, and Extendicare Oakview Place have provided outstanding care and service. A special thank you to Larry Jarman whose friendship was so important to Ethel and to Marianne Siemens who was so helpful during the last few months. In memoriam donations to the MS Society of Manitoba would be greatly appreciated.
