Dad was predeceased by his parents, his brothers William, John, Jack, his brother Matthew and wife Margaret, his sister Mary and husband Teofil Sahulka, sister Annie and husband Jack Lario and brother-in-law Roy Lario. Dad was born on the family farm in Langenburg, Saskatchewan on November 6, 1917 to Wilhelm Schentag and Theresa Schentag (Kain). While still in his teen years dad left the farm and cycled to Winnipegosis, Manitoba where he worked in the lumber and fishing industries. In 1941, he enlisted for military service and two years later he married Minnie Chomiak. Together they managed their own restaurant and grain transport businesses. In 1954 he moved to Winnipeg and was employed by the Winnipeg Electric Company which subsequently became the Manitoba Power Commission and then Manitoba Hydro. After a 24 year career he retired and enjoyed his time travelling and visiting with family. Dad was actively involved with the Royal Canadian Legion and thoroughly enjoyed the socializing and companionship of other members of the Fort Rouge Branch. Over the past 10 years as his health declined he enjoyed watching sports on television and staying informed on current affairs. He appreciated visits from family and friends and was always interested in how the grandchildren were doing. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. A private family interment will take place in St. Vital Cemetery. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Victoria General Hospital, the Department of Veteran Affairs, to Dr. Permak and particularly to our mother for the devoted care and attention that helped him throughout the past few years. In lieu of flowers donations in Dad's memory can be made to the Canadian Lung Association. Thomson In the ParK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
