FREDERICK VAN DER GRAAF 1937 - 2011 Frederick Van der Graaf, aged 73, passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a short battle with cancer. Fred was predeceased by the love of his life Betsy, brothers Art and Peter, and his parents. Fred's memory will be forever cherished by his daughters, Patricia (Bob), Lauren (Joe); grandchildren Kelsey, Caitlin, Natalie and Antonio. Fred is also survived by his sisters Anne, Betty, and Marjorie, numerous nieces and nephews and his special friend Jean. Fred was born in Vancouver to Dutch immigrant parents and moved to Winnipeg as a child. Fred was a Winnipeg Police Officer / Detective from 1962 to 1980 and then joined the Federal Government until his retirement in 1997. Fred had many passions in life which included hunting, football, drives in the country, gardening and most of all family, especially his grandchildren. Fred could never resist an opportunity to get together with family and friends. His friends knew that they could always count on him in times of need. Fred was an active member in all aspects of Masonic work; he belonged to Phoenix Lodge #187, Scottish Rite Valley of Winnipeg, Shrine Drum Corp, and The Royal Order of Jester's. Thank you to all the Nurses and Doctors on 6E at St. Boniface Hospital for their wonderful care. A service will be held at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave. at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2011.
