RICHARD BERNARD STILLWATER, MD Suddenly on March 17, 2011, Dr. Richard B. Stillwater passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 55 years, Jacqueline. He also leaves his children: son, Dr. Jory and daughter-in-law Jacqueline Stillwater, grandchild Laurie (Virginia); son, Martin and daughter-in-law Maya Stillwater, grandchild Caleigh; and son, Evan Stillwater; sister Myrna Goldstein of Vancouver, BC; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Samuel and Esther Root of Wooster, Ohio and sister-in-law, Evelyn Stillwater, San Diego, California. Richard was born in Winnipeg, January 15, 1933. He grew up in Manitou, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg at a young age. Richard graduated from St. John's High School and continued his studies at the University of Manitoba, graduating from the Faculty of Medicine in 1957. He moved with his wife to New York to continue his Residency in Otolaryngology. In 1960 he moved back to Winnipeg and set up his practice specializing in Ear, Nose and Throat Medicine at the Boyd Building on Portage Avenue for 51 years and was still going into work up until his untimely passing. During those years he was on staff at the St. Boniface Hospital, Children's Hospital and Victoria Hospital. Richard was dedicated to his patients as well as mentoring the residents he had the privilege of working with and teaching throughout this time. Medicine was his life; his patient's well being always came first and foremost. His passing will leave a profound loss to the Medical Community. Richard met Jacqueline Soltzman, the love of his life in 1953 and they married in 1956. They were married one month shy of 55 years and through this time the most important thing to Richard was always his family. He was proud of all his children's accomplishments but was most proud of his grandchildren. Richard had a simple philosophy he followed throughout his life and passed this on to his children and grandchildren, treat people no matter their circumstance in a way you yourself would like to be treated . Funeral services were held on Monday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Rabbi Alan Green officiated with interment at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Shiva was observed at 506 Bower Blvd. Pallbearers were: Mr. Daniel Adelman, Dr. Larry Adelman, Mr. Daniel Akman, Dr. Brian Book, Mr. Elliott Goszer, and Mr. Joey Pollock. Honorary Pallbearers were: Mr. Allan Adelman, Dr. Morley Bernstein, Dr. Larry Goldstein, Dr. Leonard Greenberg, Mr. Earl Pitch, Mr. Gordon Pollock, Mr. David Rabb, Dr. Samuel Root, Dr. Jack Rubin and Mr. Edward Winters. The family would like to thank the emergency and CCU staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for the compassionate care they gave him over his last days. We would also like to thank Dr. Mauro Veralli and his staff at the St. Boniface Dialysis unit. Finally, we would like to thank Dr. Patrick Griffin. Dr. Griffin was Richard's primary physician and always treated Richard with respect and compassion throughout their 16 years together. We will always be thankful for his kindness and patience with Richard over this time. Richard was always thoughtful, tender and compassionate with everyone. We never heard him speak harshly about anyone and will be missed by all who knew him. Donations may be made to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, St. Boniface Research Foundation or a charity of your choice.

  • I was a patient of Dr. Stillwater from November 1973 up until his passing. He was such a wonderful caring person, he always asked about my family. I was fortunate to have had him as my ENT. He was one of a kind. - Posted by: Janet Skinner (Doctor ) on: May 01, 2023
