LEICESTER GLENN (LEE) SAGE 1930 - 2011 Lee Sage passed away peacefully, his loved ones at his side, on March 20 after a long and good life. He grew up in Regina, excelled academically and was active in drama, debating and boy scouts. At 16, he was chosen from Saskatchewan to join a Canadian contingent attending the World Peace Jamboree in France. This trip awakened a desire to travel and experience new things. After winning an announcers' contest, he worked for various radio stations. He met Norma Mae Holland in Yorkton and they married on December 3, 1951. Daughters Virginia and Sherri were born in 1952 and 1953. In 1961, Lee became news director for CKRC in Winnipeg. He then worked for the Manitoba Government as radio editor in Information Services. While there, he established the Citizen's Inquiry service. He later worked as Communications Officer for the Manitoba Teachers' Society (1978-1992). He was active in the Canadian Public Relations Society, Manitoba Chapter, serving as President in 1980-1981. He taught in the Certificate program in Public Relations at the University of Winnipeg and authored a book on the History of the Blue Cross in Manitoba. Lee also volunteered for several community groups. He was a long-time member of the Winnipeg Press Club and Agassiz Outdoorsmen. He was an avid gardener, and worldwide traveller. First and foremost, Lee was a family man, attending all family events and gatherings. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to him and he was an unfailing source of support, guidance and inspiration to them. Lee was predeceased by Norma, his wife of 44 years, his great-grandson Logan McLauchlan and son-in-law Gus Kuncaitis. He leaves to cherish his memory: his partner Estelle Sures, his daughters Virginia Stephenson (Darrell Lussier) and Sherri Kuncaitis, his sister Evelyn Packman (Ted), his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Christer McLauchlan (Shea) (Nathan and Ian), James Sage (Keith), Brennan Stephenson (Averill) (Valen and Bryce), Liam McLauchlan (Tara), Travis Stephenson (Becky) (Hunter) and Kaleigh McLauchlan (Morag), his sister-in-law Barbara Grimshire (Stan), and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service today at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Donations may be made in Lee's memory to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

  • Loved working with Lee and his "big-time" news announcer productions at CJGX back in the early fifties. We exchanged Xmas cards for many years, and then they stopped. For some reason I Googled him this afternoon. I'm glad I did! Our fellow announcer George Wilson also CJGX passed on Jan 26-2013 of esophageal cancer complications. We all had so much fun on the air and as friends! Feel free to drop me a line or anything. I'm 86 in August. My wife Pearl and I now live in Chilliwack, BC after 9 years in Vernon and 28 years at Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast. Love to all! Derek. - Posted by: Derek V.
