MARGARET HOLMBERG (nee COCKBILL) September 1, 1925 - March 25, 2011 The family is saddened to announce the passing of Margaret Holmberg on Friday March 25, 2011 at the age of 85. She passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side. She leaves behind the love of her life; her loving husband Gordon, her son Gordon Jr. (Wanda), grandchildren Kris (Genevieve) and Jennifer and five great-grandchildren; Nikolas, Hannah, Taylor-Raye, Callie, and Brayden. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Margaret is also survived by her sister Edith Anderson of Regina, sister-in-law Dorreen Jenkins of Brandon and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her father Robert Cockbill, mother Beatrice Cockbill, brother John Cockbill and sister Winnifred Walker. Margaret was born on September 1, 1925. She grew up and was educated in Virden, Manitoba. She attended Dominion Business College and worked in Winnipeg for the National Film Board of Canada. Before her marriage, she was a member of the Holy Trinity Church. After her marriage to Gordon in 1951, they moved to Transcona. She joined the St. Georges Anglican Church and has been a member ever since. She taught Sunday school and was an active member over the years, helping with the annual plant stand, knitting for the Christmas Bazaar and baking. Margaret and Gordon were blessed with a son, Gordon Robert on March 26, 1953. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 17, 2011. Margaret loved to travel. She didn't like to fly, but they enjoyed 20 road trips to Las Vegas, always stopping in Grand Forks to shop for the grandchildren She was loved by everyone she met. She was kind and generous and never forgot a name. Margaret was a loyal friend and had many old friends from childhood and always stayed in touch with them, near and far. In her neighbourhood of 58 years, she was always there to lend a helping hand or organize a shower. She was a wonderful cook and loved to bake her special recipes for Christmas. She baked for her family and enough so that Dad had treats for the next six months. She was a passionate knitter and loved knitting for her family. Her stitches were so perfect, the sweaters looked like they were store bought. There was always something hand knit by Grandma under the Christmas tree every year before the arthritis made it too difficult. Her family would like to thank the many Health professionals who were so supportive of Margaret and her family. Thank you to Dr. Kevin Grace, the staff at Concordia Hospital and especially all the Home Care and nursing staff who came to the house to help care for Mum in her final weeks. Their compassion and dedication is truly appreciated. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Margaret's life at a memorial service on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Avenue West, Transcona. The service will be officiated by Rev. Helen Manfield of St. George's Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George's Anglican Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Oh Dear what can the matter be Oh Dear what can the matter be Oh Dear what can the matter be Johnny's so long at the fair. This was Marg's song to me on Thursday night at 9:00 p.m. and then a good night kiss. She was gone at 5:00 a.m. on Friday morning. Marg, you will never leave me and will never be forgotten. We will be strong. I don't know of anyone she didn't care for or respect. She shared her love of life with all. The most precious days of our life together were as one and will be forever. Mom, we will be together again. Love Dad Funeral arrangements by Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Ave. West. Ph. 224-1525.
