MURIEL GWENDOLINE STRANK On Sunday, March 27, 2011 Gwen passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital surrounded by her family. Gwen, age 90 will be missed by children Bill (Diane) Wonder, (Molly Wonder), Cheryl McLean, Ron Strank (Tannis Foster), Gayleen (Alvin) Hiebert; grandchildren Debbie (Ron) Senkiw, Joel (Sandy) Foster, Jared (Jenny) Foster, Robert, Richard and Randy Wonder, Jason and Jeffrey (Stormy) Strank, Joshua (Cheryl) and Andrea Hiebert, Alistair and Jocelyn McLean; great-grandchildren Brooke-Lynn and Dillan Wonder, Kirstin, Nathan, Justine, Bailey, Brendon and Carson Foster, Sienna and Sam Hiebert. She is also survived by her sister Elsa Wilson and brother George Harvey (Vancouver), sister and brothers-in-law Janie Strank (Chatham), Stella (Mel) Yakiwchuk, Calvin Duesterbeck (Regina), Betty Strank (Chatham), Paul (Mildred) Strank (Rossburn), Mary (Arnold) Streibel (Regina). She was predeceased by her parents Percy and Harriett Harvey; husbands Harold Wonder and Matthew Strank; son Bob Wonder, grandson Billy Wonder; brother Robert (Carmel) Harvey, sister Doris (Les) Sturgeon, (Edward Wilson) and (Barb Harvey). Gwen was born May 6, 1920 in Winnipeg, Manitoba; she met both her husbands while cooking for Child's Restaurant. Harold and Gwen ran a mink ranch in St. Vital, had two sons when Harold passed away suddenly. She married Matt in 1952 in Abbotsford, BC and moved to Namao, AB when Matt joined the R.C.A.F. She was an accomplished cook and gardener; many will remember her kindly from the Viscount Gort Hotel, Heritage Lodge and Kiwanis Courts where she retired well into her 70s. She had a twinkle in her eye, gentle spirit, strong Anglican faith; loved children and people of all ages and nationalities; and generous to the less fortunate. Thanks to Grace Hospital staff and pastoral care for their prayers and compassion. Flowers are declined; donations may be made to the Salvation Army, World Vision, or Kiwanis Courts flower fund. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. James Anglican Church, 195 Collegiate St. Reception to follow.
