Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS ROBERT MORLEY It is with sadness we report the death on March 24, 2011, in Bradenton, FL, after a long illness, of Captain Douglas Robert Morley, CD, Canadian Forces (Retired). Douglas Morley was born in Winnipeg, MB, on February 15, 1922, completing his schooling there in 1939. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery in May 1940, trained as an Artillery Signaller in Kingston, ON and moved overseas to Britain December 24, 1940. In 1943 he was selected for Officer Training and was posted to British OCTU at Catterick, Yorkshire and graduated as Lieutenant just before the cessation of hostilities in Europe. He returned home in 1945; left the Army briefly but reentered in his confirmed rank of Sergeant. He transferred to the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and trained in the Explosives field, attending the Joint Services Bomb Disposal School at Horsham, England. He was an Instructor at the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps School, Ammunition Company until 1961 when he received his Commission from The Ranks as Lieutenant and served as Ammunition Technical Officer at various locations in Canada. His last posting was to the Canadian Forces in Germany at Soest in Northern Germany and then at Lahr in the Black Forest area where he retired in 1974. He then took a position as Command Safety Officer with HQ Canadian Forces Europe until his final retirement in 1982. Mr. Morley was predeceased by his beloved wife Sylvia in 2002. They had met and married in Worthing, Sussex, England during his Second World War service and had one child there, Carol Ann. He was also predeceased by his parents, Gertrude and George Morley, and a brother, Donald William Morley. His passing is mourned by his beloved daughter, Carol Ann and son-in-law, William Karr of Bradenton, FL; two grandchildren, Deborah Marie Corso of Sanford, FL, and Douglas Alexander Karr of Greenwood, IN; four great-grandchildren, George and Connor of Sanford, FL and Billy and Katie of Greenwood, IN. His passing also is mourned by his sister, Patricia Renee Morley of Winnipeg, MB, and a brother, John Leslie Morley of Calgary, AB. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Chapel of Toale Brothers, 53rd Street, Bradenton with interment in the Garden of Abraham, Skyway Cemetery, Palmetto, FL, to be united with his beloved Sylvia. Immediately following interment, an invitation is extended to a gathering at the home of Bill and Carol Karr to honour the memory of the Captain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Douglas' memory to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Florida, 34238. I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine (Song of Solomon).
