GRANT HENDERSON Surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters, (Dudgeon) Grant Henderson passed away peacefully April 1, 2011 at the Victoria Hospital. Grant will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 59 years, Monique, and his three daughters: Michele Henderson, Camille and husband Terry Rowe, and Elaine Henderson. Also left to cherish their Grandpa's memory are: Chantal and husband Greg Kendall, Paul Gackle, Patrick Gackle, Kevin Rowe and Lesley Rowe; his great-granddaughters: Thea, Ava and Scarlet Kendall were the apples of their Papa's eye. He is also survived by his sister Anne Henderson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Grant was predeceased by his parents, Annie (Topsy) and Douglas Henderson, and brother Ross (Jeanette) Henderson. Grant was born in Winnipeg on October 20, 1926. Grant attended Lord Selkirk, St. John's High, and the University of Manitoba (Civil Engineering). His first job was with the Diking Board (1950 flood). In 1951 he began working as a resident engineer on the CN line between Sherridon and Lynn Lake. This was followed by a year in Dauphin as the resident engineer. He spent the rest of his career with Dominion Bridge, retiring in 1990 as head of the Quick Fab department. Grant's artistic passions were wood carving and water colour painting. His pursuit of these pleasures lead him back to the University of Manitoba, upon his retirement, where he earned a Diploma in Fine Arts in 1997. He subsequently spent many years in the Sculpture Department at the university creating works of art and enjoying the company and achievements of the undergraduate students. The lake, cottage building, canoeing, gardening, growing prize winning lilies, bird watching, and Scottish Country Dancing were also great passions for Grant. He was a member of the Manitoba Lily Society, the Manitoba Naturalists, the Lake of the Woods Association, the St. Andrew's Society, and the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society where he was vice chairman and chairman on several occasions. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Dr. Richard Blouw for helping Grant achieve nine lives over 30 years of health challenges. Special thanks to the compassionate and caring staff at the Victoria Hospital (4th floor) who assisted Grant and the family through the last difficult days. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue, Winnipeg, followed by a reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, Grant has requested that gifts made in his memory be directed to the Sculpture Department where he spent many happy hours.
