Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Joan Doreen Moore (Webb), his children Catherine (Terry Pearce), Paul (Jennifer Hildebrand), Sheila Klassen, Eleanor (Jim Hill), Christine Gillis (Keith), and John (Laurie Mills). He will also be remembered fondly by his grandchildren, Jason and Galen Pearce, Tianna Hildebrand, David and Lisa Klassen, Meagan, Ben, Jodi and Claire Hill, and Webb, Mac, and Finn Gillis and great-grandchild Jaia Pearce. Honouring his memory are brothers Tom (Joyce), Jim (Heather), Joe (Lorraine), Bill (MaryAnn), Monsignor Michael, and Bernard (Claire), and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter is predeceased by his parents Milton and Jeannette Moore, siblings Phillip, Paul, and Janet. Born November 4, 1927 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Peter was the eldest of 10 children. The family was a member of St. Ignatius Church and while attending the Youth Group, Peter met Joan who would later become his bride and lifetime partner. Together they raised six children. Peter started his career at the Winnipeg Grain Commission after graduating from St. Paul's High School and was literally in on the ground floor of the computer revolution. Starting in the mailroom, Peter retired from his career as the Data Processing Manager of Cargill Grain. Peter excelled in Track and Field events in High School and had a lifelong passion for sport. He built many memories through camping and canoeing, and in doing so helped to instill his love of nature in his children and grandchildren. Peter just loved to play; whether it was hide and seek with his young family or cribbage and rummoli with extended family and friends. Peter and Joan were the model of a loving couple who shared mutual respect, participating in each other's interests. Their social life was rich. Dad taught Mom how to curl and Mom introduced Dad to the Symphony. Both loved to entertain and hosted many a Pig Out of the Month dinner party with the same group of friends for years. Ever optimistic, they were Bomber season ticket holders. Golfing with the Wildewood crew was a favourite activity in their retirement as was travelling to Florida annually. Committed to his community, he volunteered his time to many good causes including St. Ignatius Parish Council, School Board, and Refugee Committee, Serra Club, Habitat for Humanity and Hip Hip Hooray to name a few. Peter managed life's adversities with a quiet fortitude. He was extremely resilient, accepting challenges without complaint. A father figure to his younger brothers before having his own children, his commitment to family and warm embrace were large enough to be felt by immediate and extended members. So often, his children received comments from the people who had the good fortune of knowing him that he was such a gentleman . In the words of his youngest brother Your Dad is a classy guy . Family wish to thank staff at Riverview Health Centre CD4 for their gentle respectful care and in particular, Kim, Dad's Bird in the House . Prayers will be held 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at St. Ignatius Church. A celebration of Peter's life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at St. Ignatius Church with Msgr. Michael Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted to St. Ignatius Building Fund at 255 Stafford Street. Dad, no longer will you need the sun to shine by day, nor the moon to give it's light by night, for the Lord your God will be your everlasting light.
